Adventist gays meeting in August

Lesbian and gay Seventh-day Adventists from the United States, Canada and Australia will attend their second annual conference this summer in Northern California.

The week-long "Kampmeeting," sponsored by Seventh-day Adventist Kinship, International, Inc., will be held August 16-23 at a privately owned ranch in Guerneville, California.

Kinship, a gay Adventist organization which began in 1977, has recently filed for incorporation as a non-profit religious organization. Basically a support group, Kinship is also seeking acceptance of gay lifestyles within the fundamentalist denomination.

It appears as though our gay cookbook is going to be quite a comprehensive affair. So far the replies have exceeded our expectations. We appreciate the response and ask for more.

Starting in July or August we are going to be looking for volunteers to start up a few Test Kitchens so that we may begin the sampling process. All of the recipes will be tried out as much as possible so that we don't dump any real zingers on our unsuspecting public.

Last year the gay Adventist organization held its first Kampmeeting in Arizona. At last year's session were six official representatives of the S.D.A. Church.

As a result of their discussion with the gay Adventists, the Church representatives presented nine proposals to the administration of the Church. The Church administration acted favorably on seven of these proposals.

This year eight Adventist pastors and scholars are being

invited to meet with Kinship. A number of workshops and seminars aimed at assisting gays in reconciling their sexuality and Christian beliefs are scheduled.

A variety of recreational and social activities are also being planned, including a banque and talent show.
